Expense Keeper ("the app", "we") is a personal-finance app that reads the bank, card and wallet SMS already on your phone and turns them into a private spending dashboard. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what the app accesses and what it does — and does not — do with it.
The short version: your data never leaves your phone. We do not have a server. We do not have your data. We cannot see it.
SMS messages. With your permission, the app reads SMS on your device to detect financial transactions (debits, credits, bills, balances). It looks only at transactional messages from banks, cards, UPI apps and wallets. Personal messages are not parsed, not analysed, and not stored. SMS content is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted off the device.
Notifications. Used only to post bill reminders and category prompts. This permission gives us no access to data.
The app does not request contacts, phone state, location, camera, microphone, storage, or any other personal data.
All transaction detection, categorisation and analytics happen locally on your device. Extracted transactions, balances, budgets and category corrections are stored in a private database inside the app's own storage, accessible only to the app. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or anything other than showing you your own spending.
All your financial data lives only on your device. We do not back it up to any cloud, and there is no account. When you uninstall the app, all of its data is permanently deleted.
The app makes one kind of network request: it downloads a small, public reference file (bank sender IDs, currency rates, common merchant names) to improve categorisation. This is a one-way download of generic public data containing no personal information. Your SMS, transactions, balances and identifying information are never included in any network request.
We do not sell, rent, share or transfer your personal or financial data to any third party. There is nothing to share — your data never reaches us.
Expense Keeper's use of information received from device permissions adheres to the Google Play Developer Program Policies, including the SMS and Limited Use requirements: we access SMS only to provide the core, user-facing feature of tracking the user's own financial transactions; we do not transfer this data off the device; we do not use it for ads; we do not sell it; and we do not allow humans to read it.
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data. As we collect no data at all, this is not applicable in practice.
Your data is stored only in the app's private, sandboxed storage and is never transmitted, so the primary protection is Android's app-sandbox model. We recommend keeping a screen lock on your phone.
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date and publish the new version at the same URL.
